Health Benefits of Fats Found in Coconut Oil

Lauric Acid- The human body converts Lauric Acid into Monolaurin. Monolaurin is a Monoglyceride which has antiviral, antimicrobial, anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, and anti-protozoa properties. The compound Monolaurin is very effective at treating bacterial and lipid-coated viruses such as herpes, measles, influenza, hepatitis C, and HIV. Lauric Acid is also non-toxic and does not have any discomforting side effects, which gives it a huge advantage over harsh modern pharmaceutical drugs that are typically used to fight bacteria and viruses. In a recent study done by Georgetown University Laboratory of Dr. Harry Preuss coconut oil when used with with oregano oil was more effective than the most powerful antibiotics at treating S. Aureus bacteria.

Myristic Acid- Myristic Acid is a very important fatty acid.. The body uses it to stabilize many different proteins within the body including proteins used in the immune system. Myristic Acid is especially helpful in promoting immune system health.

Palmitic Acid- According to a Korean study published in the 2010 edition of “Journal of Medicinal Food” Palmitic Acid displays antioxidant properties that helps prevent Atherosclerosis in rats, which seems promising, but has not been tested on humans.

Capric Acid- Capric Acid has high anti-viral and anti-microbial properties. Capric acid is converted into monocaprin in the body which helps fight off viruses, bacteria, and especially the yeast candida albicans. The Medium-chain Triglyceride capric acid is broken down quickly and converted by the liver immediately into energy. Capric acid and other medium-chain fatty acids are a great source of healthy energy and promote stamina and endurance for workouts.

Caprylic Acid- According to the Health Sciences Institute, Caprylic acid has health benefits and is shown to be especially effective at treating the overgrowth of yeast fungus in the gut. Problems associated with candida yeast overgrowth include irritable bowel syndrome, depression, chronic fatigue syndrome, abdominal bloating, and vaginitis. Caprylic acid dissolves the cell membrane of candida and causes it to die off. In addition to treating bacterial, Caprylic acid may also have a beneficial effect on high blood pressure.

Oleic Acid/Linoleic Acid- Oleic and Linoleic Acid helps strengthen cell membranes. It helps repair cellular and tissue damage, aids in optimizing neurological transmission and brain function, Improves heart and circulatory function, and also helps produce healthy moist skin. Stearic acid is converted in the liver to Oleic Acid.
